Amazonarium was created by Silvio Marchini in 2000 and its mission is to promote research, education and responsible tourism activities in the Brazilian Amazon. This website presents information about the activities and projects associated with Amazonarium.

People and Jaguars Coexistence Project
Research on people’s perceptions about jaguars: how those perceptions develop in children and adolescents, and how they translate into jaguar persecution by landowners. Based upon the results of the research, the project develops education and communication interventions to improve perceptions and increase people’s tolerance to jaguars. Learn more or visit:

Escola da Amazônia
Environmental education project whose mission is to increase knowledge and awareness about the Amazon among students and educators both in and outside the region. Rural participation is funded by a ‘sister school’ programme linking private city schools to public schools on the frontier to produce a sustainable model for conservation. By bridging Brazil’s two worlds – rich and poor – Escola da Amazônia encourages the next generation to respect nature and debate alternatives to ranching and deforestation, regardless of background. Learn more or visit:
